“Have I missed something? Christmas? Easter? The Queen’s
birthday?” Jack wondered as Ianto handed him - for breakfast in bed - besides a
cup of coffee and two pieces of toast also a small package.
“I thought because you never have... seem to have birthday,”
Ianto replied shyly.
Jack shrugged with his shoulders. “Which one of my many
re-births should I celebrate in your opinion?”
Ianto smiled shyly at his lover. “Besides it’s our
anniversary… some sort of. We, well, are together since a month, I mean…” He
stopped, insecure. How should he name what he with Jack? Relationship? Affair?
Fling? Being a couple? Just a bit of fun between colleagues? Friendship with
benefits? Love? His answer would clearly be the last one but he wasn’t sure at
all what it meant to Jack.
Jack tenderly touched Ianto’s arm. “I fear my private
secretary missed to put this date in my calendar. I’m sorry.”
“It’s not important,” Ianto replied hastily and with an air
of forced lightness. “I guess it’s not that often you reach one anniversary at
all” He wondered how they made it that far considering Jack’s usually very
brief affairs in the past.
“Open up,” he added hastily before his voice could betray
his true feelings.
Jack put the package in the dark-red paper with the pink
ribbon to his ear and shook it slightly. “It’s not ticking, no bomb also,” he
said with a broad grin.
“It means you’re welcome to stay overnight. Whenever you
want,” Ianto said quietly. “And also what you mean to me.” He felt himself blushing. Maybe it wasn’t such a good
idea to give in to his impulse and buy Jack this special present. But it had
been so typical Jack he just couldn’t resist.
Jack tore the paper open and really was surprised as he
found a pyjama, especially because of the Superman picture printed on it.
